Cal State LA continues remarkable climb in U.S. News & World Report rankings
For the eighth consecutive year, Cal State LA has continued to soar as one of the nation’s top regional universities in the U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings.
Cal State LA ranks 23rd among all private and public regional universities in the western United States, rising three spots from the previous year, according to the 2022 rankings released recently.
During the past eight years, Cal State LA has jumped 73 spots among all private and public regional universities in the West.
Among top public regional universities in the West, Cal State LA ranks 8th. Last year, the university was ranked 9th.
“Cal State LA’s continued rise in the rankings reflects our deep commitment to the success of our students,” said Cal State LA President William A. Covino. “Their rise up the economic ladder and their engagement and service in communities throughout Los Angeles are powerful indicators of the value of a Cal State LA education.”
U.S. News & World Report relies on key measurements to develop its rankings. These include graduation rates, alumni giving, class size, and student-faculty ratio, areas in which Cal State LA continues to achieve significant success.
The university recorded strong marks for its undergraduate engineering and business programs, economic diversity, affordability, and social mobility in the latest rankings.
Two Cal State LA programs were featured among the nation’s best undergraduate programs and have been included in the U.S. News & World Report rankings for more than two decades.
The engineering program in the College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology is one of the top 5 in the nation among public, master’s awarding institutions, excluding military academies, the rankings show. In a separate category, Cal State LA’s undergraduate computer science program is ranked among the top 20 in California.
The business program in the College of Business and Economics continues to be one of the top 10 in California among public institutions.
U.S. News & World Report also recognized Cal State LA for its economic diversity, which demonstrates the university’s commitment to educational access. Cal State LA is once again listed as one of the top 10 Best Value Schools and among the Top Performers on Social Mobility.
This year, Cal State LA earned a spot in a new ranking category for undergraduate nursing programs. The program in the Rongxiang Xu College of Health and Human Services was ranked among the top 20 in California.
Additionally, the university was ranked 12th among the best regional universities in the West for undergraduate veterans and active-duty service members.
